In 1975 the Inglewood Dramatic Society celebrated the opening of the "Cue Theatre" in the old Billiard Rooms. On this occasion Hamish Shearer wrote a foreword for the booklet that was published and we are pleased to include this here.
I am indeed very pleased to have this opportunity of writing a brief foreword to this fine booklet which I am sure will in time prove a most valuable contribution to the records of the Society (the booklet – not the foreword!). Could I suggest that a copy be placed in an airtight canister and secreted in an appropriate place in the Society’s building? On several occasions over the years I have been in a position to assist in a small way whenever the Society has contemplated taking a further step along its path of progress, and am well aware of the trials and tribulations that have occurred. The opening of “The Cue” marks the culmination of years of dedicated effort by members of the Society and in particular a certain few who are well-known to you all. I very much doubt whether there is a more enthusiastic and dedicated Amateur Theatrical group in the country, and am sure that this very fine theatrette is second to none. Inglewood is most fortunate to have a group such as this in its midst, and I trust the Society will continue to grow and prosper in the years ahead.
