Taking Off

All these shows and the people in them have special memories for me.  But having directed plays in the “old” and “new” Cues and the Town Hall I think how fortunate we are to have the venues available to us that we have had.

The “old” Cue set the style for intimate theatre for which IDS is well known. Being able to reach out and touch your audience gives a new meaning to audience participation.

However, the “new” Cue while maintaining that intimacy has added a dimension of space that could only be dreamt about before. But the added space can also be a trap. The temptation is always there to use it and thus lose intimacy and impact. But how wonderful to use the height and space when it is appropriate.

The one disadvantage to the “new” Cue is its limited audience capacity. (You can’t have everything). So how lucky are we that we have the Town Hall as an option. That venue has served us well in the past and still has possibilities. Obviously, it is devoid of facilities – but it always was and these were overcome before and could be again.

Let’s count our blessings that we have the facilities to bring the best of theatre to our audiences.
