Mr Wonderful

I first ‘trod the boards’ in July 1969 in the Inglewood Town Hall in a play titled “Still Life”.  The late Elsa Flavell (Miss Flavell as I knew her then, being Head Mistress at my school, Inglewood High.) A few months later Yvonne Brown directed “The Remarkable Mr Pennypacker” then the following year “Night Must Fall” directed by Ngaire Young and a few months later “Hansel & Gretel” directed by Mary Boekman. 3 or 4 years later Mary directed “Birds on the Wing”, then my introduction to Derek Treeby’s directorship when I took the lead role in “Caravan”.  “Why Me?” was the name of the play that the late Dorne Arthur directed , then two more with Derek – “Straight & Narrow” and “Stepping Out”. During the latter show, the then President, Sharren Bocock, asked me to direct which I accepted (with some trepidation I may add) and chose the comedy “The Odd Couple”.  This was when Macfarlanes Caffe first came on board with sponsorship and has continued to do many times since. The NZ premiere, “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” was my 2nd show then, a few months later, Cue repeated this production with Derek Treeby at the helm and I was fortunate enough to be cast. Back treading the boards again with “Present From the Past” directed by Vivienne Baty.  My final production in 2004, was “Mr. Wonderful” that I had the pleasure of directing.. I have enjoyed being involved in Cue Theatre, taking on acting, directing, being on the committee, publicity as well as mucking in backstage. I have met many wonderful people during this time and I wish Cue every success for the next 50 years.
